Hi Andy. If you've already got a narrow screen monitor, then that's probably correct. The worst that can happen is that you'll find your TV module can't do 16:9 and you'll be stuck in 4:3, but that's unlikely. Good luck!

Hi Neil,
I've been following the mods to your M5 with interest as recently took the plunge with 2000 model in Carbon Black (BIG thanks to Mark at Munich Legends). I called my local dealer (Vines @ Gatwick) today just to see how much a widescreen monitor would cost. LMAO at £785 VAT but the real killer was they wanted to add 4 hours labour to change the wiring loom etc and mate the monitor to the car. Having checked all the forums etc I was under the impression this was a simple remove old monitor & replace with new, wait 5 mins then away you go. Is this correct or have I missed something?
Cheers,
Andy

Thank you very much for this offer Richard. It reminded me that I actually have a V26 CD in the garage! I ran this - it did the upgrade and rebooted etc, but I can't see any real difference. Maybe this is the best the MkII computer can do? In any case, I have a MkIV unit en-route apparently, so we shall see what that brings to the party!

Hi Neil,

You were asking about upgrading the visual interface on your widescreen system. This is easy, you put a new nav OS disk in the CD player after removing the map disk, upgrade the OS and get a better interface. If you want to borrow the disks for V26 (latest you can use on a CD nav drive) [contact details noted and removed] Also can be downloaded very slowly from X5world.com.

Cheers

Hi Paul - really glad to hear that you've found the site interesting. Without feedback like this I might wonder what all the effort is for! ;)

I'm afraid though that I'm not going to be able to help you in a timely manner. I've just trawled my photos and can't find any of the diff from the rear and no luck there. I'm not going to be able to get the M5 anywhere near a jack or ramp for at least a couple of weeks either - if you still need an answer I'll see what I can do the weekend of the 9th/10th I'll have a look once it has been for its MOT. :)

Dear Neil.

Fascinating read of your website - lots of valuable information and plenty of good tips and tricks :D

Can I ask a cheeky favour though? Would it be possible to measure the distance between the mounting holes where the diff bolts onto the subframe please? You can get a tape measure in between the subframe and the floorpan enough to get the hole center distance :)

Reason I ask is I am undertaking a project on my 540i Sport with regards to going down the LSD route but not using an M5 diff, however, the case I have will allow me to use the M5 cover.

BMW have quoted me a price for the cover, but it is a big risk if it doesn't fit the subframe.

Just for your information, the hole centers on all E39's bar the M5 are 12", RealOEM.com shows a different part number for the M5 subframe, but I think that is to do with the frame-body mounting bushes more than anything else :)

Or if you have a picture of the diff directly from the back then that would be excellent as I would be able to use scale proportioning to determine the measurement myself :)

Cheers
